Nutrition locked in,

Love Frozen!

63% of consumers now recognise that frozen food is at least as nutritious as fresh equivalents, with 21% understanding that frozen options can actually be nutritionally superior to fresh or chilled alternatives in many instances.

Fruit & veg start to lose nutrients as soon as they’re picked. For example Vitamin C is lost quickly. A 2007 scientific study by the University of California, Irvine found that spinach, loses 100% of its vitamin C if stored at room temperature for a week, but just 30% if frozen!

Over a third (39%) of the public already appreciate how frozen food allows them to cook meals using seasonal ingredients full of nutrition, regardless of the time of year.

82% of people would be likely to buy more Frozen Food if they knew it has equal to or better nutrition and was cheaper than Fresh.

frozen

food...

With our busy lives many of us take it for granted, but did you realise buying and eating more frozen food could help revolutionise the way you eat?

Great value!

It generally costs less than chilled and because you only use what you need: every penny you spend on frozen food goes on your plate.

Convenience!

It’s always on hand, ready for your busy lifestyle whenever you need it. Plus lots of frozen food can be quickly cooked straight from your freezer.

Planet friendly!

It is an eco-powerhouse: freezing keeps food fresher for longer so there’s less waste and less packaging so you can eat sustainable food all year round.

Good for you!

Freezing food locks in freshness and nutrients for longer, whilst short-shelf-life chilled food goes off losing nutrients and quality in a matter of days.

Cut Food

Waste

Edible food waste accounts for around three quarters of UK food waste. This waste could have been eaten if it had been managed properly.

The edible food thrown away is worth £1,000 per household of four or £250 per person – that’s £17,000,000,000 every year across the UK.

The average household throws away 1.96kg of food per day, on average, equivalent to eight meals per week.

The largest proportion of wasted food is fresh vegetables and salads, followed by meals (both home-made and pre-prepared) and bakery items.

Top tips for cutting waste Read More
  • Buying frozen food cuts waste by making food easier to manage in the home, as well as reducing waste in the supply chain
  • The range of products that are available frozen has grown so there’s a host of exciting options out there you may not have considered
  • Getting to love your freezer, and making it part of your weekly meal planning, will save money and reduce the amount you throw away
  • Replacing a fresh ingredient or product with a limited storage life for a like-for-like frozen equivalent with a longer storage life reduces the chance of it being thrown away
  • Buying pre-prepared frozen food – such as mashed potatoes – removes the need to peel ingredients or prepare products.
  • Supermarkets tend to sell fresh produce in large bags, increasing the likelihood of some food being thrown away. Frozen food lets you use only what you need, helping with portioning/ using the right amount of a product.
